The tournament featured challenging conditions with varying weather but yielded impressive catches, thanks to the adaptability and expertise of the participants.

Conditions and Tactics: Anglers faced a mix of calm and windy conditions which influenced their fishing strategies. Most successful anglers adapted to the clear and deep water by focusing on smallmouth bass on beds, utilizing reaction baits like spinnerbaits and jerkbaits during windier periods. The clear water necessitated careful approach to bed fishing, with long casts and subtle techniques proving effective.

How Midweek Bass Anglers of Arizona Tournaments Work

Midweek Bass Anglers is an engaging and competitive fishing club that convenes on a monthly basis for a unique draw team tournament at desert lakes in Arizona. While the tournaments are competitive in nature, the club offers its members more than just a chance to showcase their angling skills. It also serves as a platform for social interaction and an avenue for members to enhance their fishing expertise through the exchange of ideas and techniques.

In the context of these tournaments, Midweek Bass employs a pro-am style where a boater and a co-angler are randomly paired together for the duration of the tournament. During the tournament, this duo collaborates as a team to catch bass. The cumulative weight of their five fish (or three during the summer tournaments) is recorded and weighed as a team. Additionally, the team also registers the weight of their biggest catch. What sets this club apart is that the winnings, both for tournament placement and the largest fish caught, are evenly split, sharing the rewards 50/50 between the team members.

This innovative tournament format fosters a strong sense of camaraderie among participants and encourages the open exchange of information, fishing techniques, and styles not only between the paired team members but also across the entire club. Over time, this promotes a supportive and collaborative environment where anglers can learn from each other and develop lasting friendships.

For those passionate about bass fishing, it's not uncommon to have limited opportunities to connect with others who share the same enthusiasm. Joining the Midweek Bass Anglers of Arizona guarantees that you will meet like-minded individuals who share your passion for bass fishing. Whether you're new to the Southwest and eager to explore its fishing waters or just starting to delve into tournament-style fishing, Midweek offers an excellent platform to learn and grow in the sport.

Angler of the Year Points

The "Angler of The Year" points system is a significant component of the club's tournaments. This system is designed to recognize and reward consistent performance throughout the year. Anglers earn points based on their tournament results, and the angler with the highest accumulated points at the end of the year earns the prestigious title of "Angler of The Year." This accolade is a testament to an angler's skill, dedication, and performance over the course of the annual tournament schedule.

Tournament Rules

The rules governing Midweek tournaments play a crucial role in defining how these events are conducted. These rules dictate various aspects, including the process of drawing boaters and co-anglers as well as the accumulation of points for the coveted title of "Angler of The Year."

You can find the complete schedule for the 2024 tournaments by following this link.

It's important to note that the club's tournament schedule may not be suitable for everyone, as the events primarily occur on Wednesdays. However, this timing is advantageous for many of our members who are either retired or own their own businesses, allowing them to participate when the lakes are less crowded.

Monthly Meetings

To keep members informed and engaged, the club also holds monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month. During these gatherings, the results of the draw for that month's tournament are shared. As part of the process, members sign up and make their tournament payments before the meeting takes place.
